I will not post photos of or recipes for avocado toast.
I will not post photos of or recipes for kale salad.
I will not post photos of or recipes for almond butter.
I will not post photos of all the pretty things I’ve packed in my kids’ lunchboxes.
I will occasionally post jokes, comments and conversations involving my daughters and my parents because they are all special and hilarious and because, if anything else, this will be a good way to keep a record of these things which deserve recording.
Beyond that, I have no shtick. I have no blog identity. Welcome!
I realize I am coming to this blog thing about a decade late, and three years later than my self-imposed deadline. I left the Sun-Times in late 2011 to freelance and figure out the rest of my life and generally be more present with my girls. I remember spending that next week purging our attic, their closets and the basement of stuff. It was liberating. It was awesome. And then it was like — Oh, fuck. After about a week, it was, “I should probably set up a website to show my work and blog and stuff.” After about a month, it was, “Who am I and what am I doing and what should I be doing?!?! FUCK!”
Finally, three years later, here we are. Meaning, here is my website and this act of blogging into the ether, still trying to answer that last question and, for the record, eating kale and avocados and almond butter on toast for lunch (but with zero photographic proof, because you have my word.)
You have my words. I hope, for now, that will suffice.
